Men Fashion- A plea for change.

Men want real change with tasteful  fashion choices

It is a known truth that men are now voicing the need for change and diversity in men’s fashion trends. True that changes and diversity are taking place, but are these changes gleefully acceptable, or are they shockingly terrifying, are men being heard by design movers and shakers?

As a designer, here at a man dressed, my eyes and ears are focused on addressing these arguments, when the ripe time comes, so stay tuned. Come along with me hear and see what men are saying, about needed change.

Thank you for stopping by. Please leave a remark I want to know what you think

Future of men’s fashion – Not so terrifying.

A Man Dressed 1

Men’s fashion future, not terrifying, just changing.

While it may seem, by looking at designers collections of men’s fashion  at London fashion week, that the future of men’s fashion is terrorizing our visual aesthetics or simply terrifying, to imagine the future of men’s fashion along these lines. I can say with tremendous certainty that we are and will step into MFF  ( men’s fashion future ) with style and grace.

No future for men fashion in this scene
No future for men fashion in this scene

There is no doubt that men’s fashion as we know it is on a drastic path of change, and a change we all eagerly anticipate, but wait, what we are now seeing is just a product of a paradigm shift, which is inevitable. So be not alarmed, the reality is, change is here, but seriously so, taste and style is or will not be lost, not even on the fashion foolish.

A man less dressed.

Fewer well dressed men

It is an understated truth that men are fundamentally less dressed now, than at any other time in the history of men’s fashion, and yet men are spending more on fashion than ever. What, I ponder, could be the driving force behind this phenomenon? We could speculate that its because we now live in a real time world connection,  where cultures are rapidly  merging, gender equality, expanding and the winds of men’s fashion are blowing fearlessly, while everyone scramble to find sensible new  modes of expression.

Self expression
A man dressed new

A few books have been written on the issues of men’s fashion, many seems to be a guide for men on how to wear a suit, a tie and choosing a shirts, and always returning to the classic jacket, trousers, combination. Men are reading, taking notice and responding, in an effort to flow with the tide  of slow change and fulfilling  of his expression of personal style.

So,  new pathways will emerge, many will look less than his fashionable best, while the way is paved by all he who strive to be a well dressed mam. In his  popular book; Dressing the man: Mastering the art of permanent fashion. Alan Flusser insist that the real challenge in dressing well lies in acquiring the correct instructions and understanding that the man physical traits is the road map to his individual style. I would add to that sentiment,  and say that a man’s sensibility and personal experiences, plays a great  part in the authenticity of his tasteful  expression of style. Indeed I agree with Bernard Roetzel who said in his book Gentlemen: A timeless guide to fashion “Style is not something we do for ourselves, but rather the pursuit of our own personal satisfaction”

Can a man be well dressed without a suit?

                      Well dressed and no suit

I t would seem that if a man is not wearing a suit, or decked out in many layers of clothing, he may be treated as not well dressed. Upon pouring over countless images in magazines, online,  looking in stores, searching the history of the men attire, it has become an apparent fact that; he is not considered dressed until he is suit-fully dressed. But why is this, and where is the gap filler. Will we at some point in fashion future, merge successfully with fashion pass, to bring about some possible diversity? This question is an ongoing theme on this site; we touched upon the suit in pages.   And may we all join in the conversation.  Let’s observe images of a dressed man.  Beachwear-1905

In times past, men dressed this way all day and on all occasions, perhaps except for sports, and even then his dressing was not far from suiting up.

Fashion- forward- suits

While there are some innovative designs and embellishments to these suits, of the fashion forward and well-dressed men, it’s all the same still.  Variation or changes are minimal.

Men's-Fashion-week-New-York

But what if he is not suited up and layered on, is there a risk of looking costume and style- less, or is there truly a happy medium?

Observations

                                      This observation Post.

In this post I want to talk about some of the different styles of men’s  clothes, then get into why it is worn the way it is, and for sure present some questions, to be asked and answered by guys and gals.

So lets take a look at these pictures and have a discussion.

Now what we see here is;  designer  Moncler Gamme Bleu  summer collection for Milan fashion week. Inspired by rowing in the collegiate style.

In observing  these styles, I am happy to see bright hues and shades now so popular in men’s fashion and becoming more so, ( Thank God ) but I am a bit confused, while I understand that fashion shows present the abstract to express the theme; do we ( Designer/Stylists )  really think about, what he is wearing, how and why. Can you imagine a man trying to get in touch with his fashion self, goes to this show and would be inspired by this, thinking this is the how; gets the entire ensemble and off he goes rowing. This is just a satirical observation. I have actually seem men on the streets  doing this very thing; or putting the brand name thing to death, by wearing from head to tow  RL hat, glasses, polo shirt with the giant polo insignia, polo down pants, socks shoes and polo man bag.  RL I am sure loves such a man dressed, but eyes do suffer, I must say.

In this picture the guys are wearing shorts, dress shirts, ties, vests and jackets.  Ho my! The forever shirt, tie and jacket ( The Suite ) Now imagine what will happen when he takes off the coats/jackets, he is left wearing shorts, with shirt vest and tie, after that it will be shorts and tie and socks just rowing away.

Seriously we are going to really look at a man dressed and can we talk?

Men Accessory- trend-more than just – shoes and belts.

Men Accessory more than you think about, lets review.

Men accessories has seen a tremendous rise in uniqueness and tone,  in the last few years,  the world of men’s fashion has broaden. This is a pleasing trend to watch, as it signals a move toward  a change in the status quot, allowing greater potential for men to express their fashion attitude in more tastefully creative ways, without being labeled off beat. Men can now choose in abundance, enameling them to create a variety of individual styles and self express with their accessory. The new trends in men’s accessories, are leaving women excited  and wanting to see more, with men feeling on and well dressed.
The tie As we have cone to know it for the moment is on the fall . While this not so practical, and often not wanted piece of man’s accessory has risen and fall, in width, length, texture and style, and as so many men want to be untied it will in some way always be a part of his dress code; its sister the bow tie, as well as the other forms of man tie, such as the, ascot or cravat; will keep it together, all in a nice little and big bow.

The belts: As long as pants and trousers are as we know them then obviously belts will be belts, suspenders still hanging around even though its practical use was out done by the belt, it is now one of the just for interest, I think that is a good thing. In time to come both these pieces will be trends for interest, with no practical use, for the fashionable man, but for now why not use them well.

The shoes: Men’s shoes has an interesting history, starting with the heels; Did you know it was men who first wore high heel? Men's-high- heels 1700s This is a picture of man shoe circa 1700. Fashion museum in London.

today the idea of men in heels may be just blasphemous. Since the downfall of the heels for men, styles in men’s shoes has just began to see some interesting tones. In my forward opinion, I feel heels for men must make a useful return, and should not be necessarily for the cross dresser, men high heels must be designed strictly for men. See details Today’s Brogue Oxford. There seems to be some heals on this new styled black and white wingtip. I see this as a stylish spunky forward piece, that would add great interest to a mans collection.

The hat, scarf and gloves: All are practical pieces of accessory, but also add interest and will in that context always be a part of the man pool of accessories. There are a few nice places to find just the right thing, here I speak of quality.   A dressed man cannot afford to  do anything but good quality, start with.  Hartford York, Fine Hats & Accessories.

Bags and wallets: Both very practical and will  continue to accommodate the styles of time. The man bag is becoming a more popular aesthetic, in the very near future this accessory will be as common place among men, as is it for women today.

Money clips: A very stylish practicality and will always  add that special touch of class.

Tie pins and cuff links: Are nice classy pieces every man in his fashion forward sensibilities should possess. These are considered jewelry, and no should be without jewels.

Watches, rings, necklaces, bracelet, earnings: All jewelry, and for the man dressed,  a vital part of his personal style and style creation. More to come on this topic.

For the man, nothing sums up good style and taste, than a good, attractive watch. This watch brand the Invicta, is on a steady climb up the watch scale. It’s the one to watch.  Shown here as an example is the men’s pro diver silver tone black dial, beautiful, big and manly.

Eye wear: It has been said that men generally sport eye-wear that are not so flattering. such a phenomenon, could be due to the fact that, many do not realize that, in this instant you truly get what you pay for, but you also need to know where to look. Many years ago I visited Sacks 5th Avenue, at the sun glass counter I tried on RayBan special edition, I never looked so good. they cost $300 at the time and they were not the most expensive. By the way Ray Ban has the largest selection of sun glasses for men, than any other brand, however Oakley and a few Italian brands, carry some very innovative designs. Now there is a substantial science that goes into creating  good quality eye wear and it usually shows.  look here at more fresh life styles accessory for a men dressed

A man dressed well. Will impress

A man dressed well, will impress.

In the world of men’s dressing, sharp comes to mind when you  consider a man pouring thought and execution in putting together an outfit. What does it take for a man to dress sharp and to impress, does it mean that he must be in a suit, to accomplish impressive sharpness? The general school of thought may say yes, but not so in the world of a man dressed. You see if you think about it, and truth be told a huge sector of our world thinks very little, if at all about men and dressing,  particularly when you make this comparison to women. Thank the fashion heavens, that the next generation are in fact thinking more about men and dressing. So getting back to sharp dress and dressed to impress, men style.

A-new-man

There is now a wide range of styles, colors and  textures available in men’s fashion world, but availability is s sparse, there are still too few men’s fashion magazine, still too few shopping facilities catering to men’s clothing, far too few designers, designing for men and still far too many people thinking on this story. So it seems a man well dressed is usually in a suit and tie, pants with shirt, buttoned down front and jacket, ( no matter the temperature ) shirt tucked in pants and so on.

More men are joining this growing trend toward wearing kilt and kilt/ like garments. Are you one of those men, will you become a manche/kilt wearing man, should you?

In my perceptive opinion. I do think all men and boys should have at least one of these in his wardrobe; you should not have to be of a particular ethnic fraction or even a fashion buff to have the experience of comfort, ease and style. This garment will add to your dress. A man in a manche  ( it should never be termed skirt, while on men ) is quite a turn on, and in general, people enjoy this, especially women, and more than you would imagine, thinks you are gorgeously hot when you wear them. I do believe however that men enjoy wearing them for slightly different reasons.

There are many conversations taken place worldwide on this topic, both pros and con. Be a part of this trend, get into the flow, wear the Manche. Hear what some people are saying. And the debate goes on, but I can tell you, not long from now the question will not be, should men wear a skirt?  It will be more along the lines of, ” Today more men are choosing to wear the manche casually and at times in the workplace, and women love it while men appreciate the availability  ease and functionality” Watch this

Why men wear ( skirts ) manche

Some men are now wearing ( skirts) manche for a few reasons, 1: sometimes in protest, because women can wear pants or anything and it’s all acceptable,  2:  There are very few garments as such, that are made specifically for the men, that wants wear them.  3: Men are looking for more versatility, new ways to self-express, comfort, and not be limited to just pants or shorts.  Check this out.  I feel these men are better looking, because of how they’re dressed.

As always, glad you stopped by, would love to hear your words, what you are thinking, please leave a comment.
Thank you.

A man in skirt?

                                                            Men in skirts? No..

                                                                        Its a Manche

Street_Manche                                                       This man is not in a skirt; its a Manch

A man should never wear a skirt.  I do believe however that a man should wear any garments liken to that silhouette, but should never be called a skirt if dawned by the man.  If  man prefer not to wear pants, then I believe he should reserve the universal right to wear that which is not pants, but rather garments such as, or similar to a Manche, a  kilt, (Scotland) Kanga, (Africa) Munda (Kerala) Parero (Tahiti) Lava Lava  (Polynesia) While all these garments are of a ethnic distinction, I believe we should adopted for the western man,  a profile of such attire, that is universal and should have a name indicative of men. I call this the MANCHE

Men are clamering to reach the next level of fashion, part of that experience is to wear what they are now calling skirt. If indeed men are wearing skirts its because, we are not making that which is for man; for the moment  the most commonly acceptable garment of the genre are kilts. Every man should have one, but it must be  called Manche, when not specific to ethnicity.
